Madagascar Struck by Third Cyclone of 2009
By Johannesburg Relief Team (Originally
in English)
After cyclone Jade wreaked havoc on
the northeast coast of Madagascar, our Association members from
Johannesburg formed a relief team and brought Supreme Master
Ching Hai’s love and financial aid to the port city of
Toamasina on April 20, 2009. Jade was the third cyclone to strike
Madagascar this year, and approximately eight people lost their
lives. When the team arrived, the flooding produced by the storm
had largely subsided, but around 232 local people were still
in need of assistance. The team members distributed mosquito
nets, repellent and rice along with SOS flyers to inform everyone
how they could help stop such disasters in the future.
