By Singapore News Group (Originally in English)

[Singapore] On May 23, Golden Year 6 (2009),The Youth Executives Committees (YECs) in Sembawang GRC and Nee Soon Central SMC jointly organized a policy forum, entitled “Climate Change - What is in it for YOUth and me?” at The Jelutung Community Club in Singapore. The Forum was initiated by The People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM), seeking to increase the awareness and knowledge of participants on current environmental issues.

At the event, Dr. Khoo Hsien Hui, a researcher and invited speaker for several climate change topics, delivered a presentation titled “Climate change: greenhouse gas emissions from food”, followed by a video from Supreme Master Television. She explained that the most immediate and cost-effective way to stop global warming is to go on a meat-free diet and stressed that for decades, we have been taking from Mother Earth without much consideration, and it is time we pay attention to Mother Earth’s “distress signals” sent through the atmosphere, weather and sea. She took the opportunity to introduce the video “A Delicate Balance- the Truth” to the audience. Materials on livestock’s contribution to climate change and SOS Flyers were also distributed.

Inspired by the presentation and the video from Supreme Master Television, the chairman of the forum, Dr. Lim Wee Kiak, who is also the Adviser to Canberra Grassroots Organizations (GROs) and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sembawang GRC, showed his support by suggesting “vegetarian once a week”, as one of the solutions to reduce global warming. Thank you, Dr. Lim for your support. May more concerned citizens in Singapore answer your call to join the movement of going veg to save the planet.
