Go Veg to Fight Global Warming and Save the Planet Activities
Compiled by Formosa News Groups (Originally in Chinese)

[Formosa] To draw people’s attention to the global warming crisis and the importance of the vegan solution, fellow initiates in Formosa held a wide variety of promotional activities.

Seminars

Between November of Golden Year 5 (2008) and January of Golden Year 6 (2009), Taipei Center held 28 global warming seminars in five elementary schools, seven junior high schools, and many government and private organizations such as Nanshan Life Insurance. More than 8,000 people attended the seminars. A major exhibition was also held at the Dongyuan Branch of the Taipei Municipal Library for four months.

In recent months, Kaohsiung Center held 31 seminars on going green to fight global warming at government and private organizations in the greater Kaohsiung area, including nine military units, seven elementary schools, 11 junior high schools, two technology institutes, and the Luzhu Township Office. More than 7,000 people attended the events. To raise greater awareness of the Be Veg-Go Green-Save the Planet message, fellow initiates appeared on “A Walk Around Earth” program aired by Broadcasting Corporation of China in January of Golden Year 6. The radio network is highly concerned about this issue and plans to broadcast more interviews with our fellow initiates.

Distributing Informative Material

Through day-to-day distribution efforts, the Taipei fellow initiates have so far handed out 74,000 SOS flyers, 30,000 copies of vegetarian cookbooks, and 2,300 copies of the “Meet the Truth-Stop Animal Cruelty” DVD. On community and corporate bulletin boards, they put up the “10 Measures to Save Energy and Reduce Carbon Emissions” posters printed by the Environmental Protection Administration. On January 29 and 31, fellow initiates from Kaohsiung distributed a total of 45,000 SOS flyers at crowded places in metropolitan Kaohsiung around the Lunar New Year holiday.

Fairs and Exhibitions

During the 2009 Taiwan Lantern Festival held at Yilan Sports Park, local initiates distributed SOS flyers and showed Supreme Master TV programs on the vegan diet and global warming. They also prepared 1,000 portions of delicious vegan snacks for the public to taste free of charge. In Changhua, fellow initiates participated in the New Year’s Eve Fair held at the Haidun Community Complex, serving delectable vegan food, passing out SOS flyers, and administering a quiz to help persuade local residents to care more about the environment problem.

Economical Vegetarian Meal Boxes

For the “Auspicious Vegan Meal-box Giveaway” activity, the Nantou Loving Hut gave away 100 delicious vegan meal boxes each day from January 1 to January 24, while fellow initiates dressed in lovely animal costumes distributed SOS flyers outside the restaurant. After this event, the Nantou Loving Hut launched an “Auspicious Vegan Meal Boxes Discount Sale” to encourage more people to join the vegan family. The Pingtung Loving Hut started selling meal boxes at a very low price of NT$39 (US$1.2); two weeks later, daily sales had risen to 500 meal boxes. Fellow initiates in Fengshan have also been selling tasteful vegan meal boxes at their own shops at just NT$39. At lunch and dinner time each day, they could sell over 300 meal boxes. On the first and 15th day of the lunar month, which are traditional vegetarian days, sales could shoot up to 600! Furthermore, some I-Kuan-Tao believers, who are ova-vegetarian, asked fellow initiates how to prepare cheap and delicious vegan meal boxes. This shows that the endeavor by our fellow initiates has started a positive trend.

Touched by the ideal of “Saving the Earth by Going Vegan” advocated by Loving Hut, the Nantou Women’s Society invited children and volunteer workers at the Dann Center for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities to the Nantou Loving Hut for a delicious meal of vegan glutinous rice dumplings in celebration of the Lantern Festival.

Book Fairs Open a New Vision of Truth,
Virtue and Beauty

Compiled by Taoyuan and Taipei News Groups (Originally in Chinese)

[Taoyuan/Taipei] The Supreme Master Ching Hai Publishing Co. Ltd. and the Love Ocean Creative Co. Ltd. recently participated in two book fairs—the 7th National Book Exhibition in Taoyuan and the 17th Taipei International Book Exhibition. They showcased Supreme Master Ching Hai’s bestselling books and other publications, while also sharing information on the vegan diet as a solution to global warming.

At the Taoyuan exhibition from December 31, Golden Year 5 (2008) to January 5, Golden Year 6 (2009), the convener held the “Send Out Love—Never Stop Reading” activity which lead to the countdown to the new year. The honorable guests, including County Magistrate Eric Liluan Chu and other high-ranking government officials, expressed New Year greetings to the worldwide audience of Supreme Master Television, and appealed to everyone to join the Be Veg-Go Green-Save the Planet movement.  During the exhibition, a reading session of The Realization of Health was held, followed by a quiz with prizes and a wonderful performance by the Love Ocean Puppet Troupe. Mr. Chen Hsueh-sheng, director of Taoyuan’s Cultural Affairs Bureau, lauded the puppeteers for their contribution to the cultural education of young children, and recommended Master’s animal and environment books to the public.

At the Taipei exhibition from February 4 to 9, we had the opportunity to present two wonderful books to Formosan President Ma Ying-jeou: The Realization of Health and Thoughts on Life and Consciousness , as well as Supreme Master TV flyers, and brochures on going vegan to fight global warming. The Taipei Center organized several seminars during the six-day event, including a discussion on The Realization of Health, and a new book reading session on Celestial Art. The Love Ocean Puppet Troupe again performed at the venue and became the favorite of many children and their parents. At crowded places inside and outside the venue, we distributed informative materials about global warming and the vegan diet, which totalled 102,000 SOS flyers and 10,000 copies of vegan recipes. We received much encouragement and support from many compassionate people. During this period, about 20 people also learned the Convenient Method of meditation in order to connect with God’s infinite grace.

The most wonderful news was that Celestial Art hit No. 1 on the Kingstone online bookstore’s bestsellers list soon after the book was launched. Another piece of good news came on February 4: Master’s new books The Noble Wilds and Celestial Art were both selected as TOP 1-2008 books published in Formosa. All TOP 1 books would be on display in the Main Reading Room of the National Central Library (NCL) until March 31. This was the latest recognition and affirmation of Master’s books by NCL, following TOP 1 selections in 2004, 2006 and 2007 that included Key of Immediate Enlightenment--Volume 9, The Realization of Health, The Dream of a Butterfly, The Birds in My Life, and The Dogs in My Life. NCL’s good books recommendation activity aims to expand the cultural vision of society, and encourage people to read more until the nation embraces the elegant lifestyle of reading books.
