Relief Supplies and Love Reach Laotians
By Bangkok Relief Team (Originally in Thai)
In October 2009, heavy rains caused flooding that
took 16 lives, left 135 missing and injured over 100 in the
southern provinces of Laos. Strong currents from the overflowing
Sekong River obstructed both rescue and relief delivery efforts.
With sorrow and prayers for the people of Laos, Supreme
Master Ching Hai immediately contributed US$10,000 in emergency
aid, and on October 6, 2009, a team of our Association members
from Thailand and Laos went to Sekong Province to distribute
food and daily necessities to those in need. The next day, the
team continued to dispense relief items along with SOS flyers
in Lamam District.
Mr. Phonephet Khiulavong, Vice-Governor of Sekong,
sent a message of gratitude to Supreme Master Ching Hai for
the kindness and compassion She had shown his people, who also
deeply appreciated Her loving concern. We hope the people of
Laos will swiftly return to their daily lives and that our efforts
to create lighter carbon footprints on the planet will prevent
such disasters in the future.
