Generous Gifts for Flood Stricken Families
By the Costa Rica and Houston Relief Teams (Originally
in English)
On
June 2, 2009, with Supreme Master Ching Hai’s financial contribution
of $18,000, one of our Association members from Costa Rica and two
from Houston, Texas, USA went to the Dominican Republic to help
victims of a flood that had affected over a thousand families.
With the help of a local Red Cross team
and its supervisor, Mr. Sergio Vargas, they were able to visit 300
households in the areas of Alfa 4 and Río Nigel at the south
end of the island, who were still struggling to recover. For the
most part, these families lacked adequate nourishment and sanitary
supplies. So on June 3, our relief team prepared 342 packages containing
food and essential basic necessities, as well as plenty of toys,
and delivered them along with SOS flyers to 300 families the following
day. The remaining bags of supplies and toys were given to two orphanages
and local families who later came to the Red Cross for assistance.
The local residents and Red Cross team all thanked Master
for Her generous gifts and the vital information on the SOS flyers.
Some of the Red Cross staff promised to cut down on their meat consumption
to help curb global warming.
