After wildfires in western Canada caused 11,000 residents
to flee their homes, the British Columbia Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) rescued approximately 300 animals
from the area. The BC SPCA also offers animal-welfare-themed day
camps for people at various locations throughout the province where
participants learn about pet care, wildlife, farm animals, animal
welfare issues, and the environment. The favorite pastime at the
camps is spending time with animals.

On July 24, Golden Year 6 (2009), a group of Vancouver
initiates visited Dr. Jim Inglis, Director of Kelowna, British Columbia’s,
SPCA branch and presented him with a CAD$5,000 (US$4,600) contribution
on behalf of Supreme Master Ching Hai. Upon receiving the funds,
Dr. Inglis expressed deep gratitude for Master’s generous
              aid.

The initiates were happy to learn that the BC SPCA has
a number of vegan and vegetarian staff members, and that the organization
has a policy of ensuring that cruelty-free, meatless meals are served
to these employees regularly. They took the opportunity to inform
Dr. Inglis and his staff on how to prepare their own vegan pet food
at home, thus allowing their animals also to eliminate meat from
their lives. May God soon bless us with a cruelty-free world.

              On
September 23, 2009, Master Lương Sĩ Hằng, leader
of the Vô Vi Meditation School in Montreal, Canada, passed away
at the age of 86. Born in Quy Nhơn, Âu Lạc (Vietnam),
Master Lương began teaching the Vô Vi Meditation Method
in 1958 to help others find inner harmony, and promoted the Method
into his advanced years. He also conducted humanitarian work and
gave lectures around the globe. In 1991, Supreme Master Ching Hai
met Master Lương in California, USA, during Her lecture
              tour.

Upon hearing of Master Lương’s passing,
Supreme Master Ching Hai sent Her condolences and prayers along
with flowers and a US$5,000 contribution. On October 11, a team
of Association members went to the Vô Vi School to deliver Master’s
gifts and message to Master Lương’s relatives and
disciples, who thanked Her for Her loving thoughts and contribution,
adding that the funds would be used to help the poor in Âu Lac.
Despite their beloved Master’s passing, the members
of the Vô Vi Meditation School radiated a peaceful, serene energy.
