Myanmar Mudslide
Victims Receive Timely Aid
By Myanmar News Group (Originally in Burman)
In July 2009, several days of torrential rain triggered
flash flooding and mudslides in Phar Kant, Myanmar, also known as
Burma, a city famous for jade mining. Approximately 900 residents
of a nearby mining town were left homeless by the mudslides and
were provided with temporary shelter by the local monks. In addition,
24 people had lost their lives.
Hearing
of the people’s plight, Supreme Master Ching Hai sent US$5,000
to be distributed by two local initiates to homeless families, especially
those who had lost their loved ones. The initiates prepared flyers
and 120 printed sport shirts promoting the vegan lifestyle and set
out for the region on August 4, 2009. The monks were able to relocate
131 people and others were accommodated by their relatives in local
villages, with more still looking for shelter. All were extremely
grateful for Supreme Master Ching Hai’s help and loving support.
We thank the monks and local mining businessman, Mr.Yee, for their
help in providing housing for the affected families, and pray that
the victims now have comfort and shelter to ease their lives.
