Spreading the SOS Message
with Happiness and Enthusiasm

By Jakarta News Group (Originally in Indonesian)

[Indonesia] From April to June, Golden Year 6 (2009), Jakarta Center fellow initiates have taken on one project after another to tirelessly promote the message of saving the planet from the destruction of global warming through adopting a vegan diet.

Holding Global Warming Seminars

On April 4, the initiates traveled to Jambi City, a remote community on Central Sumatra Island, to conduct presentations on global warming for Father St. Sumardi, SCJ at Saint Theresia Church and several nuns at Saint Theresia Hospital, who then invited them to present the information to the Catholic schools and nurses in their region. The next day, at the Hotel Abadi, Kajanglako, they gave a similar seminar to about 120 guests. The event was broadcasted by Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI) Station Jambi in the afternoon. Several days later, many guests including Mrs. Nofrida, host for Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) in Jambi, were so impressed by the validity of the content of the seminar and confirmed that they had already switched to the plant-based diet, and they also requested vegetarian recipes to share with their families and friends.

On April 19, fellow initiates visited a Sikh Temple in Jakarta on Khalsa Day, an occasion which requires everyone to keep a vegetarian diet. After the global warming presentation, they demonstrated how to make biopori, a way to compost organic garbage in a deep hole which also functions to collect water to avoid flooding. A mother and her little daughter told the initiates that they were regular viewers of Supreme Master TV and as a result, have become vegetarians.

On May 12, the initiates invited over 200 teachers and students from high schools and universities in Cirebon City, West Java of Indonesia, to an informative climate change seminar held at the Apita Hotel, where the Head of Environment for Cirebon City, Dr. H. Iskukuh urged all the participants to partake in solving the problem of global warming by choosing a plant-based diet. From the selected Supreme Master TV programs, many participants learned about the urgency of global warming for the first time, and some eagerly asked initiates to bring the message to their schools. All enjoyed the free vegan lunch that they provided. The media, Mitra Dialog, Pikiran Rakyat, Radar Cirebon and Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI), covered the event.

On May 29, by invitation from one of the participants of the Cirebon seminar, initiates went to BPK Penabur Elementary School to share the global warming message with about 120 grade six students and their teachers, and received enthusiastic feedback.

Providing Vegan Food at the Scout Jamboree

From June 8 to 10, fellow initiates provided about 2,000 vegan meal boxes to about 1,278 students and teachers at the annual scout jamboree gathering at Bumi Perkemahan Cibubur, South of Jakarta. Their food was welcomed and appreciated by the many participants and some asked for their recipes to try at home. The initiates were also allowed to play the global warming related programs from Supreme Master TV as well as distribute SOS flyers and DVDs during the event.

Forming a Vegan Society in Indonesia (VSI)

On June 21, when the world was celebrating its first Vegan Earth Day and Father’s Day, our local Association members and the Indonesia Vegetarian Society (IVS) established the Vegan Society Indonesia (VSI). In celebration of this, a ceremony, attended by more than 40 vegan aspirants, was held at Chang Sow Veg Restaurant, North Jakarta. The VSI have put into the agenda a 3-year and a 10-year plan to promote veganism in Indonesia as the fastest way to curb global warming. They also set up a working committee to coordinate the first vegan fest, Vegan and Green Festival 2010, in Jakarta.

Indonesian Environment Week 2009

Jakarta Center initiates set up a booth at the Jakarta Convention Center, during the 13th Indonesian Environment Week 2009. From May 28 to 31, fellow initiates took turns to distribute SOS flyers and explain to the visitors the foremost solution to global warming, the plant-based diet. Many teachers and students invited them to their schools to give talks on this topic, and the initiates ended up with a global warming seminar schedule for the next two months. They also played selected programs from Supreme Master TV, which attracted many passers-bys, and handed out about 1,000 free vegan meal boxes.

All of the Jakarta fellow initiates were so happy and energized by this work to spread the SOS global warming news to their people. They thank Master for Her infinite love and blessing in doing this great work.
