A Conscientious Vegan Journalist
Philippine News Group (Originally in English)

Ms. Tessa Salazar is a science and health journalist at Philippine Daily Inquirer. Being a vegan herself, Ms. Tessa Salazar wrote several well researched articles to promote vegetarian diet and animal welfare, as well as fight against global warming.

In her December 31, 2007 article “Pray for, Be Kind to All God’s Animals, Church Urged,”1 she quoted from the speeches of experts and verses from the Bible to point out how animals should be treated and called on people to start the New Year with a more compassionate heart. She also explained that vegetarianism is the way to solve world hunger referencing scientific evidence.

In the January 4 and December 19, 2008 issues, Ms. Tessa Salazar wrote two more articles under Inquirer’s Lifestyle Column, “If Becoming a Vegetarian Is Your 2008 Resolution…2 and “Forego Meat, Doctors Advise Public.3. These well-researched articles encourage a healthy vegetarian lifestyle. Summarizing research results from many well respected scientists and research/education institutions, Ms. Salazar concluded that meat eating, especially heavy meat eating during holiday seasons, is “slow suicide” for humans; and that the vegetarian diet can not only improve people’s health, but also reduces global warming. She gave practical advice on how to cook vegetarian meals and where to find vegetarian restaurants for those who want to start the vegetarian diet.

Letter from Ms. Tessa Salazar

To express our appreciation to Ms. Tessa Salazar for her forward thinking journalistic efforts, the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association sent her a letter of appreciation. Upon receiving the letter, Ms. Salazar wrote in return that, “I am truly, truly grateful for the feedback you wrote on the story “Forego Meat Doctors Advise Public.” It is not every day that I get appreciation such as that and this would encourage me to do better each time I write about health related topics…. I have written several articles regarding how Filipinos could benefit from making plant-based diet their way of life.” She revealed that she has been a faithful viewer of Supreme Master Television and is currently searching for the latest materials and studies regarding the plant based diet. She wished that our Association members and patrons, “increase in numbers until all the 6.7 billion people on Earth forego animal protein, love animals, love the planet and all living beings, and shift to vegan diet.”

Thank you Ms. Salazar for writing this vitally informative articles for the public. May your career continue to flourish and all your noble endeavors be blessed with fruitful success!
