Humanity Shone in Adversity

By France News Group (Originally in French)

After the heavy downpours in Northern Morocco in September 2008, the city of Driouch was severely damaged with certain areas submerged in over 10 meters of water. Meknes, Fès-Boulemane as well as some villages close to Taza were also seriously affected. The torrential rain swept away everything in its path including houses, animals and stocks of food.

The Mohammed V Foundation (Fondation Mohammed V pour la Solidarité), established by the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, allocated five million Dirhams for emergency aid programs while the Red Crescent of Morocco (CRM) distributed a large amount of needed supplies. Even the army was mobilized to help with transportation and to re-establish the communication system.

Supreme Master Ching Hai contributed US$20,000 to assist with the relief work carried out in November by our local initiates as well as initiates from France and Spain. They distributed food, clothes, mattresses and blankets to about 500 families in Driouch. In their trip to Rabat, the capital city, many stray dogs were very happy to receive bread as well.

The help from Master was very much appreciated by the local people. A person asked for Her picture so that he could show it to everyone. He said that it was God who came to help them. May the people of Morocco quickly recover from this disaster and adopt the more compassionate and noble vegan diet.
